Week 4 is almost done. In a weekend filled with gridiron blowouts (9 games decided by more than 2 touchdowns), our Fantasy matchups were uncharacteristically even.
By the time the clock reads 0:00 in MetLife Stadium tonight, no single Fantasy matchup will have been decided by more than 20 points. The headline: this is a competitive league, where anything could happen.
Just 4 weeks into our Fantasy season and already some wonderful stories have emerged. Chelsea’s auto-draft disaster hasn’t kept her from a dominant start, this week knocking down the lone undefeated Zac. Veronicca was 0-3 off the block, but her one-true-love Jalen delivered a dominant win over her real-life beau. Jean is a perennial pool shark, making us doubt how “clueless” she really is. Fantastic draft hauls by Kayla, Joe, & Josh have fallen victim to injury and intrigue, while Blake has silently built a playoff dark horse.
Yes, some of you have stronger starts and deeper rosters. But after completing almost a third of the Fantasy regular season, Week 4 showed us that fortunes can, on a dime, swing in any direction.
We have learned this lesson: no one is immortal, nothing is beyond repair. Everybody poops.
Games In Review:
JEAN (2-1) vs BLAKE (2-1)
What Happened: Sometimes a team wins; sometimes a team loses. This week, Blake lost. Jean had a solid performance, but Blake failed to put up a fight.
JEAN: In general, a solid performance by Jean’s team. Nobody went above-and-beyond, but everyone played to expectations. It was enough to keep her head above water.
BLAKE: the Matrix got an OS update, and Blake is still adjusting. With his FLEX not receiving any targets, his D/ST receiving a shock from Houston, and WR Deebo Samuel serving as Shanahan’s smoke & mirrors, Blake left double digit points on the bench this week. No concerns here, though–he’ll bounce back.
Prediction: Everyone has played, and Jean finds herself with her 3rd win of the season.
ZAC (3-0) vs CHELSEA (2-1)
What Happened: The universe finally dialed up a loss for Zac, and the call was coming from inside the house. Chelsea showed that the gods can bleed.
ZAC: Holy bench points, Batman! The Bills front 7 pressured Tua 11 times yesterday, eating into Zac’s reliable air attack. Meanwhile, Zac’s team management got weirdly harder, with his backups posting strong performances from the sidelines.
CHELSEA: Tale as old as time: Stefon Diggs saved the day. But that’s not all–taking a gander at her bench gives much encouragement for the rest of the season.
Prediction: Unless Jason Myers misses 12 field goals tonight, this one is over. Chelsea took down our sole remaining unbeaten!
VERONICCA (0-3) vs JOSH (1-2)
What Happened: Overtime is good for Fantasy players. Specifically, overtime was good for Veronicca’s fantasy players.
VERONICCA: Hurts-to-Brown was the real winner for V, but it doesn’t hurt to have ND Alum Kyren Williams FLEXing with 2 TDs.
JOSH: Risks did not pay off. Josh benched 4 starters with tough defensive matchups, causing his bench to outscore the starting lineup.
Prediction: Josh has his best RB yet to play on Monday. It’s not inconceivable that Kenneth Walker III could put up 31 points against the Giant’s 7th worst run defense, but it’s a long shot. V most likely ends the night with her first win.
JOE (1-2) vs KAYLA (1-2)
What Happened: Joe took an early lead and never looked back. The 49ers gave Kayla some hope late in the day, but only her kicker remained, and the deficit was too large.
JOE: Josh Allen pulled a Josh Allen, with 5 total TDs. Hard to lose with a QB like that. And down the roster, the situation is rosy with 3 benched players scoring 20+ points.
KAYLA: Kayla’s team did their best impression of a group project, with Christian McCaffrey’s monster 48.7 point performance almost outperforming the other 8 positions combined.
Prediction: No prediction necessary–this one is a win for Joe.
Monday Night Miracle?
JOSH: Is it possible? Yes. Kenneth Walker III needs to score 31 points tonight, and he scored 30 last weekend. Is it likely? Probably not. Pete Carrol is an asshole who loves to run up the score, but Walker III is completely healthy for the first time in 2 years. He’s unlikely to be the vessel of the Giant’s shame.
